HOSTS Founding Research
HOSTS Learning has based its learning systems on the research of Dr. Benjamin Bloom of the University of Chicago.

Bloom's 2 Sigma Problem compared students learning under three conditions of instruction:
  • conventional
  • mastery learning (time on task)
  • tutoring

The research revealed that the average student taught under the best devised learning conditions (mastery learning and tutorial instruction), is 2 levels above the average control student taught under conventional group methods of instruction. With this research as a foundation, HOSTS Learning built its learning systems to support a combination of mastery learning and tutorial learning to produce the best results.

Over the past 30 years, HOSTS Learning's strategies have been validated by students who are gaining on average 2 or more grade level gains in any HOSTSLink mentoring center.

Proven Effective Through Student Results
In study after study, HOSTS Learning systems have been proven to accelerate student gain 2 or more levels in a single school year. These studies have been conducted by independent educational research experts across the nation. Many of these studies confirm that HOSTS Learning is a developmentally appropriate, diagnostic, prescriptive, and individualized instructional system that gets results.

In addition, several of these studies have proven HOSTS Learning works for all students enrolled in the program despite their individual challenges. Whether a student is identified for IEP, special needs, Title I, or at-risk, the individualized and diagnostic approach to learning in HOSTS is helping students accomplish their academic goals.
